Membership

The District Membership Team works to engage Rotarians with their clubs, District, and Rotary International.

Membership is the single most important issue that affects every Rotarian. Without membership RETENTION and GROWTH, Rotary is at risk. Most clubs regularly add new members every year. Unfortunately, most clubs also lose members every year. Real effort must be made to RETAIN our member as well as bring in new ones.

It may be necessary for clubs to review their processes and procedures to ensure they are meeting the needs of members. Be certain to communicate with members who are leaving to determine the REAL reasons they are leaving your club. This information may give indications of what needs to be done to keep members. CHANGE may be necessary.

Prospective members must be fully informed of expectations and responsibilities. New and recent members must be INVOLVED in club activities. An active orientation program is critical. EVERY club member is responsible for membership, so involve all in ATTRACTING andRETAINING members.

This page contains many resources and ideas to help your club to develop a membership plan and to engage your members.

The District Membership Committee is here to assist your club to:

·   Initiate membership development and retention strategies, in collaboration with the District Governor and District leaders.

·      Assist in the formulation of annual District membership and retention goals.

·      Promote the implementation of the Club Leadership Plan, with particular reference to membership development and retention.

·      Educate and motivate Rotary clubs regarding new member orientation and mentoring.

·      Share Rotary International membership material with Assistant Governors.

·       Serve as a resource to Rotary clubs regarding membership development and retention.

·      Work in collaboration with Assistant Governors and Club Presidents, strives to achieve annual District membership and retention goals.

·      Provide appropriate recognition to Rotary clubs and individual Rotarians for significant achievements in membership development and retention.

The 9930 Membership Development Plan has the following strategic priorities

Increase Membership Diversity:  Develop clubs that are more reflective of the local community. Identify and act on opportunities to increase diversity. Provide opportunities for Non-Rotarians to participate in club activities and projects. Investigate innovative membership types, club structures, and operations. Promote inter-club support within areas

Develop skilled and informed Rotarians: . Continue to develop effective training at district and club level. Assess and increase member‘s knowledge of Rotary. Encourage participation in events and programs that enhance Rotary awareness. Enhanced Rotary information sharing within clubs. Encourage new members to learn more of Rotary. Provide additional resources to clubs to increase members knowledge.

To Support Innovative and Flexible Clubs: Conduct regular club forums to review club health. Adopt a 3 year management process.

Create Strategic Partnerships: Run projects with local government and businesses. Align projects with local community needs. Satellite clubs and groups. Corporate membership.

Enhance brand recognition, understanding, and trust.

Identify ambassadors to promote membership of Rotary. Promote Rotary Week and Rotary achievements.

Rejuvenate website, social media and public image assets. Establish and publicise club projects. Support non-Rotarians to attending conferences.

The District Membership Director and Committee wish to consult, guide and assist clubs in their membership development. We also wish to create new membership initiatives, strengthen existing clubs, create satellite groups and open where we can new and innovative clubs.   DG Keith’s goal this year is to have all clubs increase membership as a nett gain of 3.3% which for most Clubs is about 2-3 new members over the July 2016 start figure.  Clubs who qualify will be achieving one of the citation criteria by making your club‘s membership grow  Clubs requiring further information such as a presenter/ facilitator at club meetings or membership seminars, please contact the district chairperson.
