District Governor

Grant Spackman

Grant has been a member of the Havelock North Rotary Club since 2008, having previously been a member of this Club for five years in the 1980s.
 
He was Club President in 2011-12 and a Board member and Director for the following nine years. During this time he served as Foundation and International Chair and Club Secretary. Grant was the Area 10 Convenor for two Group Study Exchange visits from District 1450, Denmark and District 5050 British Columbia / Washington State. He is a member of the District Foundation Committee and served for three years on the District Grants Sub Committee. He is a graduate of the Rotary Leadership Institute.
 
Grant was born in Hastings and grew up on an orchard south of the city. After leaving school, Grant completed a Diploma in Horticulture and Diploma in Horticultural Management at Lincoln College before working on orchards in Washington State, USA. On return from overseas, Grant joined the family fruit growing business in 1978. Over the following 27 years, he expanded the business to 125 hectares across 16 orchards on the Heretaunga Plains.
 
For the past 14 years, Grant has been the Supply Manager for the large horticultural companies, BOSTOCK New Zealand Ltd and Profruit Ltd.
During his career, Grant has been actively involved in industry organisations, including an executive member of the national pipfruit organisation, PGNZI and Director of NZ Pipfruit Ltd
 
Grant is married to Wendy who is employed as the specialist wound care nurse at the Hawkes Bay District Health Board, where she has worked for the past 28 years, including 15 years as a District Nurse, caring for people in their homes.
Between them, Wendy and Grant have five children and six grandchildren. Family time is important to them as well as the experience of fellowship and friendship that Rotary brings to their lives.
