District Governor’s Message – December
As the year draws to a close the world continues to be in the grip of the pandemic

The recent news of vaccines being available provides hope that the coming year will give relief and a way forward. While the Polio immunisation programme is currently on hold, polio workers are busy undertaking Covid-19 surveillance and contact tracing in over 70 countries.

For Rotary, December marks Disease Prevention and Treatment Month. This is one of The Rotary Foundation’s seven Areas of Focus with numerous projects around the world being undertaken by Clubs and Rotary Districts. This is a time for us to look at our role in promoting health at home and abroad, supporting these vital projects that contribute towards healthy communities.

Disease prevention and treatment takes on many forms from immunisation to improving drinking water and sanitation infrastructure. The world relies on Rotary to tackle these global challenges and set an example for other organisations to follow.

It gives me pleasure to announce that registrations for our upcoming District conference are now open. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Hastings on the weekend of the 21st to 23rd May. The conference will provide a wonderful opportunity to reconnect after a trying year, enjoy the fellowship, entertainment and outstanding speakers that we have lined up. I urge you to view the conference website www.9930conference.org over the coming weeks.

It has been a real privilege to visit the Clubs in our Rotary District over the past four months. The opportunity to meet Rotarians and their families in their own communities has brought home to me that we are truly People of Action. Wendy and I wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and a relaxing break over the New Year.
