Well, Christmas and the January Holidays have been and gone – and here we are in February.

This month’s theme is Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention.

Naturally, when we think about this topic we think about such areas as the Middle East or other areas of conflict in the world. I would suggest to you that this topic is also aimed at each one of us and our own personal relationships. So can I please encourage us all, this month to seriously consider the rapport that we have with others and if necessary “Catch Up and Patch Up”.

On Tuesday 28th January I was delighted to be able to attend the chartering of the Rotorua Passport Club.

I do wish them well in their plans and projects and hope that they will become a real asset – not just for themselves – but also the other clubs in the District who they are able to support and encourage. Statistically, with the addition of the 21 new members that they have brought into membership of Rotary International, District 9930 is now numerically the largest district in New Zealand.

Looking further into the figures – in our Zone – the biggest area of growth is the Philippines – who during the first 6 months of the Rotary year started up 63 new clubs of all descriptions which have led to another large increase in their membership. Can I suggest to you that one of the best ways to increase our membership is the creation of new clubs.

Mike Smith our membership chair is more than happy to discuss this option with you at any time.

You would have all received a letter from Mark Maloney talking about the linkage that is being set up between Rotary International and Toastmasters. Potentially this linkage can lead to our member's self-development and is worth at least a conversation with your local Toastmasters Club.

Finally, can I please urge you to register for the District Conference, if you have not already done so. Registrations are now open; we have a high calibre of speakers lined up as well as time for fun and fellowship. Details of the conference can be found at  https://www.9930conference.org/
