Community Economic and Development Month

October is Community and Economic Development Month.  Our friend Mr. Google defines this as two separate things. Community development is a process of making a community a better place to live and work. Economic development is purely and simply the creation of wealth from which many community benefits result.

To me this sums up the work of Rotary, trying to make our communities a better place to live and work in.

On a personal note, I’m our local neighborhood coordinator and lately, we met at a local café to strengthen our little community and try and make it a better place.
This month Deb and I are visiting Hawkes Bay and we are looking forward to seeing the good work Rotarians are doing there. Making the community a better place to live and work will help Hawkes Bay and the East Coast recover from the devastation that happened in February.

For those who want to follow our movements please visit the District Calendar on our Website, under District. https://rotary9930.org/events/calendar

October 24th is World Polio Day and I encourage your clubs to recognise the day with events or displays, and maybe fundraise to help us end Polio. We are that close to eradicating Polio, and we need to keep our foot down on the pedal.

A new initiative for 9930 is the become a Polio Plus Society member by donating US$100 per year, for as long as Polio is around.

I put a call out for curtains to supplement the “Curtain Bank” in Wairoa. They were initially getting curtains from Hawkes Bay, but this has dried up. Thank you to those who have fronted up with curtains. I can see our car loaded when Deb and I visit Wairoa on 18th October.

Have a good month doing what you do best, making the world a better place.
