Rotary Foundation District grants: how to apply

Rotary Foundation District grants: how to apply
Does your club want to build a walkway in your local town? Support a water project in a Pacific Island country? Combine with other clubs in your community group on a larger project? Fund a young person to participate in a Rotary youth programme?

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) offers your club two grants to support your project.

District grants fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in your community and communities overseas. They are the commonest grants that members in our District apply for and applications are open 1 July - 31 August.

Global grants fund larger projects with budgets of US$30,000 or more. We encourage your club or community group to consider these grants for your projects but please discuss with Pat or Michelle right at the start.

District grant applications

A club must be 'qualified' to apply for any Rotary Foundation grant. To qualify a club is required to:
  • have at least one Rotarian who has passed the online Grant Management Seminar (GMS), and/or Grant Management Recertification in the Rotary Learning Centre and attended the District 9930 Foundation Zoom seminar (various dates will be offered)
  • ensure your club's Rotary dues are fully paid up
  • sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to be attached to your DG application
  • enter their Foundation Giving Goals in My Rotary
  • have a President and President Elect confirmed for each year of grant project
  • understand that:
    • any grant awarded must be matched by way of cash contribution from the club, and that
    • payments are made in two tranches and are dependent on the club completing the required reporting
If you have a member that has already completed the online GMS they simply need to do the Grant Management Recertification course which is usually not posted in My Rotary until the second week of July. We recommend that each the Rotary Foundation Chair, President Elect and (if different) the DG project leader complete the GMS.The more people completing the courses, the stronger your club becomes.

To access the Grant Management Seminar:
  • Sign in to My Rotary
  • Click on Learning Centre
  • Click View Rotary Foundation Courses
  • Click Grant Management Seminar or Grant Management recertification 202*-2*.
The maximum grant clubs can apply for is $5000, which must be matched by a CASH contribution from your club.

Applications open 1 July and close on 31 August, so we recommend that president elects start planning in good time for the following Rotary year.

See also https://my.rotary.org/en/take-action/apply-grants/district-grants or contact us (in the left panel) for more support.

Finally, a plea from the judging panel. Please do not leave your application to the very last moment. Timeframes are extremely tight to meet District and TRF deadlines and an influx of applications on the last day places a great deal of unwanted pressure on the Grants Subcommittee,
